Step One

Minimum Qualifications

In order to apply, you must meet the minimum qualifications:

1. Be at least 18 years of age when the application is submitted.
2. Be a born or naturalized citizen of the United States for deputy and reserve deputy positions or be legally qualified to work in the United States for civilian and crossing guard positions when the application is submitted.
3. Possess a state-issued GED or high school diploma that is recognized by Cognia or an equivalent accrediting agency;
4. Have not been Dishonorably Discharged from the military;
5. Possess a valid driver’s license;
6. Have not been convicted of, pled guilty to or pled Nolo Contendere to a felony or act of Family Violence;
7. Have not been convicted of, pled guilty to or pled Nolo Contendere to DUI within the past 60 months;
8. Have not used marijuana within the last 24 months;
9. Have not used any scheduled drug illegally within the last 60 months;
10. Have not illegally sold or distributed any narcotic for profit or personal gain;
11. Have not manufactured, cultivated, or grown any illegal narcotic;
12. Do not have visible tattoos, intentional scaring, branding and/or mutilation on the ears, head, face or neck area (if on hand, it must be covered by one agency-approved ring on each hand);
13. Do not have stretching or “gauging” of the earlobe or any other visible body part;

Step Four

Initial Interview

Have an in person interview with the hiring panel.

Step Five

Background Investigation and Medical Screening

Background investigation which includes polygraph examination, medical and drug screening, and psychological fitness exam.

Step Six

Interview with Frank Reynolds

Final step in hiring process is a formal interview with Sheriff Frank Reynolds and Chief Tommy Pinyan.
